2. Peritoneal Mesothelioma
Peritoneal mesothelioma is a type of cancer that develops in the mesothelial lining of the abdomen, known as the peritoneum. It is the second most common type of mesothelioma, accounting for about 20 percent of all cases of the disease. The symptoms can slightly differ from the other types of mesothelioma and include abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, weight loss, nausea or vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, and fatigue. These symptoms are related to the thickening of the peritoneal membrane and the build-up of fluid. Peritoneal mesothelioma is the type of mesothelioma known to spread the fastest throughout the body. Because of this, treatment, which is usually done with heated chemotherapy, is particularly difficult.
