Thorium dioxide or Thorotrast was a compound used in X-rays and has been linked to peritoneal and pleural mesothelioma. The use of Thorotrast ceased in the 1950s but because it can take upwards of 50 years for mesothelioma symptoms to present, new cases could still be discovered.
