Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer which is mainly caused by an exposure to asbestos. Currently, there is no known cure for the disease but there are a number of traditional treatments used to help improve a patient’s quality of life. There are also several experimental treatments according to Mesothelioma Cancer Association currently being studied.
There are many studies of gene therapy currently being tested in animal models. So far, animal experiments using gene therapies have shown great promise, however, this has yet to be transitioned to human studies. Other gene therapies which are either being used on their own or alongside chemotherapy drugs include Onconase, lovastatin, and thalidomide, the results of which have been mixed so far.
