Asbestosis is a benign lung condition which causes severe scarring and inflammation on the tissue of the organ. Due to asbestos, which can be life-threatening, the lungs are unable to properly expand and relax which causes symptoms such as shortness of breath and chest tightness. It is a severe form of interstitial lung disease and it caused the death of over 1,400 people in the USA between 2000 and 2007.
