Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer usually caused by exposure to asbestos. There are four types of mesothelioma. Pleural mesothelioma affects the lungs and is the most common type of malignant mesothelioma, accounting for about 75 percent of cases. But mesothelioma also affects the abdomen, testicles, and heart. The disease can take 20 to 50 years to manifest.
