One Man’s Battle with Mesothelioma

Watch this Wall Street Journal video shared on the publication’s YouTube channel in June 2013 that follows surgeon and Air Force veteran Brian McQueen, of Texas, through the last year of his life.

Because his brother and his sister both died from mesothelioma, McQueen knew before the test results came back positive that he had the deadly disease. Doctors confirmed in 2011 that his left lung was completely covered by the cancer.

McQueen believed he was first exposed to asbestos fibers when he was a child visiting his family’s farm in Ohio. Asbestos was so widely used in construction that many of the farm’s outbuildings would have contained the deadly material.
