Asbestosis is a non cancerous but severe lung condition that causes dangerous scarring and inflammation to the organ tissue. Because of asbestos contamination, which can be life-threatening, the lungs are unable to properly expand and relax which causes symptoms that include shortness of breath and chest tightness. It is a severe form of interstitial lung disease that caused approximately 1,400 deaths in the U.S. between 2000 and 2007.
